Yoga rug vs Yoga mat - What is the difference

What is a yoga rug?

Yoga rug is the most traditional yoga surface for practicing yoga. Usually, it's handmade from pure cotton.

Yogis have used it for centuries due to its characteristics.

The top benefits of yoga rug are:

  • Non-slippery
  • Washable
  • Easy to carry
  • Soft to the skin
  • Builds strengths

Treat your practice and yourself properly. Allow yourself to get a better quality yoga rug which is harmless to your skin and environment as well.

Do I need a yoga mat if I have a carpet?  Can you use a rug as a yoga mat?

Yes, you can!

If you have a carpet which can be dedicated only to your yoga practice – great!
Use it and you don’t need a yoga mat. In case you use the carpet in common space and it is a bit dusty, provide yourself with a proper yoga mat. During your practice you breathe a lot, so try to avoid any particles which can harm you. Also make sure you practice in a clean environment.

Is there a difference between yoga mats?

Short answer is yes.

The difference is in many factors – material, size, colours, dyes and way of manufacture.

Which one to choose depends on many factors and your yoga practice as well.

Honestly, the most natural for me feels like a cotton yoga rug.  Since I switched from a regular yoga mat I'm totally in love with it.

The biggest advantage is the non-slipping factor and also that I can wash it easily.

Hope it helped you to get a little more clarity on the topic!
Take care!

M.
